ETYMOLOGY:
After Mercury, Roman god of commerce, thievery, eloquence, communication,
etc. The planet is named after the god and in ancient astrology those born
under the supposed influence of Mercury were ascribed his qualities. Earliest
documented use: 1300.
USAGE:
